PRIVATE COURSES FAQ FILE...

IS IT FOR YOU?

Our private courses are designed to tailor the mountain biking experience to your needs. When one of our group packages doesn’t quite meet your needs, one of our guides can be hired to ensure you have the ultimate experience. Whether you wish to develop your skills on the bike, or entertain 6 friends for a day, your guide will make this happen. A basic level of fitness is presumed, however the day is not designed to test your fitness. If you aren’t confident in your fitness, then try completing a two hour ride over variable terrain with regular breaks. If you can do this, you are in fine fettle to complete the day.

WHERE DOES IT TAKE PLACE?

A meeting point will be agreed, either your accommodation or at Glentress Forest. Glentress provides the perfect skills development venue, with its variety of graded trails and purpose-built obstacles to improve on. For a guided ride day, our venue will be Glentress or one of the multitude of cracking rides in the Tweed Valley. All of our tutors have intimate knowledge of the Tweed Valley, as all of our guides have worked on the trails here.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THE COURSE?

Our courses are always designed to be fun and action packed. You’ll find your skill set and confidence improving without you realising you were ‘studying’ skills. The safety and comfort of our clients is our no.1 priority and our expert tutors will never throw you in at the deep end. At the same time you will not be held back from pushing your limits in a controlled manner. As our courses advance, participants gain the skills and confidence to take on more and more challenging trails.

HOW DO THE COURSES RUN?

Our day sessions run from 10am – 4pm with a one hour break for lunch. Our three hour sessions can be booked from 9am – 12pm; 1pm – 4pm or 5pm – 8pm (summer only). Your session begins with a warm-up assessment ride followed by a short session with your tutor focussing on what you and they think you need to improve on. From there on the sessions run according to the plan you have made with your tutor.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING?

The most important thing to bring is enthusiasm! In terms of equipment, you can bring your own well maintained bike or hire one of our performance ‘hardtails’. If you are unsure if your bike is suitable, it should be a mountain-specific bike with knobbly tyres and preferably with front suspension. Well built fully-rigid bikes are fine. As a guide of quality, if your bike is more than 5 years old, it should have cost you at least £400 or if you bike is under 5 years old, it should have cost you at least £250 to be generally suitable. If you are unsure about any of your equipment or need to arrange hire, please get in touch – the main consideration is that the bike is in good working order! Other equipment you will need to bring:

  • A standard cycling helmet – NO HELMET = NO RIDE
  • Comfortable sports clothing & spare layers including a wind/waterproof jacket
  • Gloves, preferably cycling-specific
  • A small rucksack to carry water and spare clothing
  • Lunch - supplies can be bought on-site at the start of the day
  • Recommended extras include protective glasses, snacks and simple spares including a spare inner tube, bike pump and multitool

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

A day session costs £130 for 1 or 2 people, or £180 for 3 – 6 people. A 3 hour session costs £75 for 1 or 2 people, or £100 for 3 – 6 people.
